Boat Captain
Essex Heritage is seeking a BOAT CAPTAIN for a seasonal position in Salem Sound, Salem MA. Starting mid-May 2022 – October 2022. Must be available Wednesday-Sunday. Hours 30-32 hours per week in season (mid-June to mid-September) but may vary somewhat depending on programming schedule, weather, and other factors.
Seeking mature, detail-oriented, licensed captain to operate landing craft for trips from the Salem commercial dock on Blaney Street to Bakers Island Light Station and Misery Island beaches, as well as occasional harbor cruises.
Vessel is an 18-passenger Munson aluminum Cat-Pak 32’ with two 225hp Honda outboards. Beach landing requires confidence and skill especially in windy conditions.
Captain will be assisted by a qualified deckhand who will check in passengers, assist passengers to disembark and embark at the island beach, and will conduct any on-island tours. Captain remains with the boat at the mooring while passengers are on the island.
