Most of the 55-acre island is private, residential but the 10-acre light station on the north side of the island is owned and managed by the Essex National Heritage Commission. There are a few options to get to the island for your overnight visit:
- Ride on Naumkeag, Essex Heritage's 32' Munson landing craft. With a capacity of 18 passengers and two crew, Naumkeag is the only boat capable of ferrying the public to Bakers Island Light Station and landing directly on the beach. The ride out to the island is roughly 30-minutes each way. There is no public dock at Bakers Island, so visitors must navigate a rocky beach to get to the light station. Passage on Naumkeag to Bakers Island Light Station is included in the cost of an overnight (passage on Naumkeag is not included in the price of renting a campsite). Times to and from the island are on a set schedule. Please inquire about the timing when requesting a booking.
- Take your own boat and rent a mooring. Essex Heritage has one mooring available for 24-hour rentals. Moorings are available from 12:00noon to 12:00noon the following day. If you would like to come ashore, you must have your own transportation from your boat to the beach. There is no ferry service available.
